Business strategy has always been important for telemarketing companies and the direct marketing industry. The best way to approach people so that they will be more likely to purchase the product offered by the company has always been a large issue with any company. The strategy used to accomplish this is very important and will ultimately effect whether or not a company will be successful in their efforts. There are several different types of direct marketing strategies in use today, but there are two main ways that goals are reached; the traditional method and the modern method.

The traditional strategy for telemarketing is set up much like any other call center. The companies practice direct marketing services, and try and get people to purchase their products. Each telemarketer calls a list of people and tries to convince them to purchase whatever product the telemarketing firm is selling. There are two main categories to traditional telemarketing: business to business and business to consumer. Each call center is set up into four main segments, depending on the kind of job being done.

The lead generation gathers the information about potential customers and targets the best people to call for the particular product that the company is selling. The sales team tries to sell the product in the most persuasive way possible. The outbound callers solicit people through cold calling and the inbound phone people handle the requests for orders and other such matters. This system of database marketing has worked for many years, but the recent legislation, which is designed to stop telemarketers, has had a major effect on the traditional telemarketing system.

Outbound telemarketing and other forms of more traditional telemarketing jobs have had to change because of the stricter laws put in place by the government. Many of the telemarketing companies are turning to other methods of marketing their products. One of these methods is through internet marketing. Instead of having call center services at a physical location, companies are hiring people to work from home, referred to as a virtual call center. This saves the company money because they can pay the employees less, and they don't have to pay for a building either. Other businesses are using the business strategy of changing their focus altogether. They are stopping the calling business and moving on to other forms of marketing.

The business strategy that a company chooses to use will ultimately decide the fate of the business. Many telemarketing companies now have to rethink their previous business strategies. The idea of the virtual call center is one of these ideas, and many telemarketing companies are using them. Still, it is impossible to know how successful such maneuvers will be over time.
